So, today I had a great time letting my current boss know I'd be leaving in two weeks. I hope the new job will be much nicer than the old one. This one is to do with patchwork designs. The business is a family run one with a very nice atmosphere. Sounds much more interesting! Yup, this year is shaping up nicely - starting study again, new job :D I hope everything else goes as well!
I'm also thinking I need to go on an icon search again. Mine are getting a little over used.
I forgot my friend's engagement party. Yup, you heard right. Completely forgot it. Not just a little bit or as an excuse - really honestly forgot all about it. So of course I simply didn't turn up. I didn't even remember until the friend in question sent me a txt message saying "Where were you today?" Even then I couldn't remember exactly what it was I'd forgotten. Needless to say - she's very angry with me. I'm not even sure if she'll ever speak to me again. I feel really rotten. Does anyone think a pair of pretty handmade gloves might smooth her feathers, or is it hopeless?
In other news, I have a job interview tomorrow and I might finally finally be able to get out of this job that I hate. So talk about the stress piling up. I'm feeling hesitantly hopeful and deathly worried about this interview, delighted at the thought of getting out of my other job, looking forward to college/uni starting and horrible for feeling anything good at all while this other situation is going on. I'm sure I should explode with all these emotions swirling around me.
Lots of walking and beach and general laying around and chilling out. Learnt lots of good stuff too - good way to start the new year.
I'm not even very sunburnt, just nicely tinged.
Saw fairy penguins - I refuse to call them 'little' penguins, cause it's just stupid. They were really sweet and amusing, doing little dances and faceplants in the surf. It was really cold, but a good night.
On the way home we saw a deer farm. We were al 'aww, look at the cute deer' and such. Then we saw these huge signs on the fence announcing that they were venision steaks and roasts etc. It was rather funny.
Anyway, it's good to be home. I can't wait till college starts - there's about a month to go, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm starting my BA in Applied Linguistics. In the meantime I have my brother's wedding in about 10 days and a top to try and finish knitting before then! I'm not sure if it's going to work out, but I'll give it a good shot.
Hope you all had a good weekend, and Happy Australia Day!
I would have gone down today but the company I work for is annoyingly tight with money. Yes, I know they're a business and such but grrr. I had this guy all set up to work my shift and then they decided they wouldn't let him do it cause he'd cost too much! *glares* like they really can't afford it. So I'm delayed by a day in order to work a measley 4 hour shift tonight and am not very happy about it. I just really hate how everything comes down to money. Sometimes I really hate the stuff and my/everyone's necessary dependence on it.
In other news, I had one of the most interesting customers in a while the other day. I work in a petrol station, right (you know, one of those places you put fuel in your car). In Australia we don't do service. We just don't. Any service you get is out of the goodness of our hearts (we don't get tips or paid extra or anything for being nice to people like you might elsewhere in the world) - as we're generally decent people you do get help if you need it. but mostly people don't. They just fill up their car and then come in a give me money for it. Anyway this lady the other day, she tried three different pumps, trying fill up her car. For some reason - which we've yet to figure out it just didn't work. Don't know why - there was no problem with those pumps before or after her. We of course started trying to help her when the first one wasn't working. After the whole debacle - it finally started working on the third pump cause she decided to switch fuels, and for some reason the new one worked. Then she came in and paid for it and accused us of finding her situation amusing and of deliberately not authorising her pump so she couldn't get any fuel out. Now that is just ridiculous. Why would we find that funny? All that would do for us is to make her mad and then give us problems. So we just kept silent, served her as quickly as we could to get her to leave and THEN we laughed about it. Okay, so maybe it was the heat or she'd just had a hard day - but honestly why would we do anything like that when all we hope for is that we'll have a shift where everything goes smoothly and no one complains?
*sigh* okay, I'm vented *breathes and thinks of lying under a tree at the beach tomorrow*
I'm reading more classics at the moment - I've wanted to read more of them for awhile now and it just became a kind of resolution that I'm carrying out without me really resolving anything - so that was nice.
Currently I'm reading Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell and I'm really enjoying it. I know some people find her a bit preachy and pushy with her views - but honestly, I don't. She just really cared a lot about the poor and the injustices she saw - so she really wanted to get her point across. But, if you don't care about social issues - particularly poverty - you possibly shouldn't be reading Gaskell in the first place. Anyway - I'm really enjoying the plot. I've always liked her style ever since I first read North and South and this book hasn't let me down at all. I kinda want to have a son, call him James and nickname him Jem and Jamie ;D I'm about halfway through it now. Something just happened that really gripped me and made me gasp - which I love. I love how she can just spin things on one paragraph. And her description and. and. Okay I'll stop with the fangirlyness now. Has anyone else read this book? What did you think?
Here's my classics 'to read' list (in no particular order).
Lorna Doone by R D Blackmore
Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell
Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell
Emma by Jane Austen
Shirley by Charlotte Bronte
Villette by Charlotte Bronte
Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson
I've got a few that I've half read as well that I need to finish - like Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell which I was really enjoying - then I watched the miniseries and it put me off the book. I need to just go back and just sink myself into it again - and try not to think of the miniseries. I know this might upset some people - but I'm sorry, I'm really not a fan of Andrew Davies.
Anyone have any suggestions to add to my list up there?

| You scored as Moya (Farscape) You are surrounded by muppets. But that is okay because they are your friends and have shown many times that they can be trusted. Now if only you could stop being bothered about wormholes.

fanstuff is pretty much good for everything somehow. *sighs* I want Rose back... and not to have her leave or anyone to leave. I just want everyone to stay put for a couple of seasons - is that asking too much?
I'll post a couple of photos as soon as I can get them on here.
